A GIANT BLOCKBUSTER “JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION”

EPIC SERIES ENDING

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment's $165 million co-production, Jurassic World Dominion, has approached the $1 billion mark at the global box office with a record-breaking opening of $960 million since its release. Thus, in a short time, it surpassed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the second highest-grossing film of 2022, and became the second biggest Hollywood movie of the year after Top Gun: Maverick, which was at the top. It is directed by Colin Trevorrow, who directed the record-breaking Jurassic World with a global gross of $1.7 million in 2015. The last link of this new series, which includes Oscar-winning legendary film director Steven Spielberg among its executive producers, also ends a unique 30-year story that started with Jurassic Park in 1993.

For the first time, a movie in the series takes place not on Nublar Island but all over the world and is about four years after the destruction of the island. In a dangerous world where dinosaurs now live and hunt entirely with humans. In this movie, nostalgic references are made to the first trilogy of the series, which will give the audience emotional moments, and we see that all the characters in the ending legend come together once again. Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films based on the characters of American author Michael Crichton; Although original in story and plot, it is actually inspired by British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 1912 work The Lost World. Jurassic series influences aren't limited to groundbreaking cinema history and pop-culture. In this sense, no movie series has had a more lasting and profound impact on science than the Jurassic series did. It has increased the interest and interest of the society, and especially the youth, in Fossilology, in other words Paleontology. Stephen Brusatte, Professor of Paleontology and Evolution at the University of Edinburgh, the film's paleontology consultant, says the following on this subject; “Jurassic Park is the most important thing to happen to paleontology in decades. Because that movie brought dinosaurs back to life for a generation, showing them like never before. It caused society to become interested in dinosaurs again, causing many young people to enter paleontology. It led to more money being transferred to the area. It has led more universities to open dinosaur classes and museums to have dinosaur exhibits. We are still taking advantage of that.”

Another detail is that the Biosyn Company in the movie was inspired by Apple. The basic structure of the company is circular and the architectural design is depicted similar to the “Apple Park” incoming center. Lewis Dodgson, Biosyn's President and antagonist of the movie, resembles Apple CEO Tim Cook, from his appearance to his hairstyle to his speech patterns. In addition, the design of all of the company helicopters is smooth white, just like Apple products (especially AirPods). French philosopher Roland Barthes, one of the founders of European semiotics (semiology) and a master of thought and writing in the twentieth century, In his work titled The Semiological Adventure, in which he reveals the basic principles and concepts of semiology, he states that the color white conveys a certain idea about luxury and femininity. In the movie, we see the reflections of this through the character of Soyona Santos and the technology company Biosyn.

In the end, both unite; Dr. Ian Malcolm, Dr. Henry Wu and new characters such as Kayla Watts (DeWanda Wise) and Ramsey Cole (Mamoudou Athie) come together to create a powerful and singular story. Director Trevorrow says that Universal and Steven Spielberg believe in this new structure of the film, and that all the characters in these two epic and gripping stories combined in the third chapter are satisfactorily honored.

CREATION OF DINOSAURS

- Animatronics supervisor John Nolan and creature effects designers created 27 dinosaurs for the movie, 10 of which have never been seen in a Jurassic movie before.

- All dinosaurs featured in the movie existed in real life and were confirmed by Stephen Brusatte, consultant paleontologist and professor at Edinburgh University.

- Adding animatronic creatures was director Trevorrow's goal from the start, and more importantly, he wanted to work with people who shared his passion for dinosaurs. So at his first meeting with Animatronics supervisor John Nolan, he asked one question; “Do you like dinosaurs?” Ultra-fan Nolan soon got his dream job.

-When director Trevorrow was determined to make the dinosaurs as realistic and accurate as possible in the third film, he worked with the design team with Professor Brusatte on the dinosaurs' behavior, posture, and whether they were furry like the pyrorapter, a ferocious predator.

- T.rex and Dilophosaurus were the only dinosaurs that needed to appear a certain way because of their previous scenes in the series. With other characters, the designers were able to design something completely different from previous movies because knowledge of dinosaurs has advanced so much since then.

- Dilophosaurus is the only dinosaur that audiences will see as a purely hands-on creature. There were no visual effects stunts or backups. The hands-on dinosaur Dilophosaurus is the first movie you'll see physically walking, thanks to 11-12 people. Also, to make Dilophosaurus' sticky, bubbling saliva from Jurassic Park, technicians used a mixture of Ultra Slime, cake, food coloring, water, and methylcellulose, a thickener commonly used in fast food milkshakes.

DETAILS

The first fossil feathered dinosaur skeleton was found in China in 1996. Two species of feathered Tyrannosaur have been discovered, and Brusatte thinks it's just a matter of time before a preserved feathered T. rex is found. Trevorrow told the design team at the initial meetings that the third Jurassic movie would be memorable for feathered dinosaurs.

- The real dinosaurs weren't mindless, slow-moving, gray lizards. They were much more energetic, intelligent, colorful and birdlike. This is the image seen and designed in the new film. Also, real dinosaurs were in vibrant colors. Some had white, brown, black, red feathers. Others had camouflage patterns or shaded hues. Some had raccoon-like rings on their tails.

- The difference between the real dinosaurs and their appearance in the Jurassic movies is that in the movies, scientists used fragments of modern animal DNA, such as frogs, to fill in the gaps in dinosaur DNA.

-One of the behind-the-scenes developments in the creation of dinosaurs is the use of silicone, which gives their skin transparency and is perfect for attaching feathers.

-In the begining, John Nolan's team made just a pyroraptor head to give Industrial Light and Magic artists an idea of how the furry creature would move and look. But Trevorrow was so impressed with Nolan's work that they eventually built a full animatronic pyroraptor head that could be featured in the movie.

- Full animatronic locusts, 29,5 inches long, were made for the film.
