THE DARK SIDE OF HUMAN NATURE “POLICE
NOVELS”
The name of
the hero of the story, Bobby Jones, comes from American golfer Robert Tire "Bobby" Jones Jr.,
who was one of the most influential figures in the sport history. Another striking detail in the series
is that Frankie often calls Bobby by the nickname 'Steve'. In the novel, this
happens only once and she says, "I get you, Steve." However, no explanation is given.
Despite this, characters Harry
(Humphrey Bogart) and Marrie (Lauren Bacall) call each other Steve
and Slim in To Have and Have Not,
based on Ernest Hemingway's classic novel.
These nicknames were also
nicknames used by director Howard Hawks
and his wife, Nancy Keith. German film theorist, sociologist and
philosopher Siegfried Kracauer; In
his book “The Detective Novel: A Philosophical Treatise”, he mentions that
detective novels hold a clear mirror that cannot be seen anywhere else, to the
society that is disconnected from reality. In this mini-series, too, we see a deep reflection of the
distorted and corrupt part of society described in the story, as Kracauer
mentioned.
Why Didn't They Ask Evans, in the genre of mystery, crime,
thriller and adventure, is an exciting production that fans of crime and
detective productions should not miss.
