A GALACTIC ADVENTURE “THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER”

LOVE, COMEDY AND ADVENTURE TOGETHER

Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth sequel of the Thor series with a budget of 185 million dollars, made its mark among the record-breaking productions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its box office revenue of 302 million dollars in the first weekend. The God of Thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth), embarks on a journey like no other adventure he's ever faced, this time on a journey of inner peace. Oscar-winning New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi, who gave life to the character of Korg with his voice and also directed the film. Also The film's cast includes Oscar-winning stars; Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Matt Damon and Russell Crowe. New technologies were also used in the film, which was created by a huge visual effects team working for hundreds of hours. One of them was the use of The Volume technology. This new technology, in which the actors are positioned against a 360-degree digital Greenscreen screen, was used in this movie for the first time among Marvel productions. For this new technology, which was previously used in Disney's The Mandalorian series, the executive producer of the film, Brian Chapek, states that it creates a seamless effect between the real world and the digital world. Omnipotence City, the home of the gods in the movie, was filmed as one of the largest sets of The Volume. Additionally, filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia, and local filming took place in and around Sydney, on the southeast coast of the continent.

PLOT OF THE FILM

Thor encounters a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who wants the gods destroyed. To combat this great threat, Thor; Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) enlists the help of Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who uses the surprisingly alluring Mjolnir as "Mighty Thor." Together they embark on a terrifying cosmic adventure to stop evil.

OMNIPOTENCE CITY

Luca Vannella, head of the film's hair department, says she used more than 200 wigs, numerous hairpieces and braids for more than 20 god characters in Omnipotence City. During the fight in Omnipotence City, when the guards are injured, golden blood splatters, not red blood. This is a reference to the story of Zeus and Danae in Greek Mythology, where Zeus turned into golden rain to impress Danae. It is also a reference to 2016's Gods of Egypt, in which Egyptian gods have no blood but gold. Also, Valkyrie's ship is called "Aegir". In Norse mythology, Ægir is a Jotun, a sea giant and one of the sea gods. Also, Thor's vest has the appearance of a tree-like structure made up of nine spheres. This is a flamboyant rendering of the gigantic mythological World Tree Yggdrasil, which in Norse mythology is believed to connect the cosmos and its nine realms (a depiction of the nine realms). Another detail is the goats Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher, who pull the chariot of the god Thor in Norse mythology. Another detail is that Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher, goats pulling the chariot of the god Thor in Norse mythology and comics, appear in the movie.

GORR THE GOD BUTCHER

Oscar and Golden Globe-winning British actor Christian Bale refused to act in another comic book or superhero movie after The Dark Knight series. However, when his children insisted that he take the role, he agreed to appear as the film's Antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher. Chris Hemsworth's real-life wife, Elsa Pataky, appears in the movie as Thor's ex-girlfriend, the "wolf woman." In addition, the character of Love, the daughter of Gorr in the movie, is played by Chris Hemsworth's real-life daughter India Rose Hemsworth.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

Based on the comics of American comics artist Jason Aaron, in the film (as the makers also say); It is underlined that no matter how big the conquests of the god of lightning Thor, in fact, his inner space is even larger. Because in every struggle he enters, it is shown that his loved ones are greatly harmed. That's why the film tells us that what he actually ran away from was true love and that he experienced it the hard way. In this sense, the Slovenian philosopher and sociologist Renata Salecl's concept of Dilemma of Choice or Ideology of Choice emerges. Salecl says, that big life choices don't just create alternative futures, they also reinterpret our past. Just like in the choice of Thor, who chose conquest in the past and he chose love later and reunited with his ex. One of the distinctive features of Marvel Studios' films is that it can gather various genres under one roof. Again in this production, a crazy and action-packed adventure awaits you.

NOSTALJİNİN KARANLIK YÜZÜ “THE BLACK PHONE”

DOĞAÜSTÜ KORKU

Universal Pictures, korku türünün önde gelen yapım şirketlerinden birisi haline gelen Blumhouse Productions ile ortaklaşa beyazperdeye getirdiği ‘’Black Phone’’ filmi, Stephen King’in oğlu Joe Hill’in New York Times’ın çok satan kitabı 20th Century Ghosts’daki ödüllü kısa hikâyesine dayanmaktadır. Başrolünde Oscar ödülüne dört defa aday gösterilen Amerikalı aktör Ethan Hawke, kariyerinin en dehşet verici ve korkutucu rolüyle izleyici karşısına çıkıyor. Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose ve Marvel’den Doctor Strange filmleriyle tanınan Amerikalı sinema yapımcısı Scott Derrickson, yönetmenliğini üstlendiği bu yapımla korku köklerine döndüğünün müjdesini veriyor. Konusu 1978 yılında geçen ve doğaüstü korku unsurlarından beslenen hikâyede, soğukkanlı bir seri katilin dehşet verici öyküsü anlatılıyor. Temelinde Stephen King’in korku klasiği ‘’It’’ romanını çağrıştırıyor olsa da, hikâye olarak daha sade bir versiyonu diyebiliriz. Zaten filmde de ‘’It’’ yapıtına göndermeler bulunuyor. Ayrıca The Grabber’ın taktığı ürkütücü maskeler; Friday the 13th, Day of the Dead, Maniac ve Living Dead gibi kült korku filmlerindeki özel efektler makyajıyla bilinen Amerikalı ünlü makyaj sanatçıcı Tom Savini tarafından tasarlandı.

Oyuncu kadrosunda; Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, E. Roger Mitchell, Jeremy Davies, Troy Rudeseal, James Ransone, Miguel Cazarez Mora, Rebecca Clarke, J. Gaven Wilde, Spencer Fitzgerald, Jordan Isaiah White, Spencer Fitzgerald ve Jordan Isaiah White yer alıyor.

THE DARK SIDE OF NOSTALGIA “THE BLACK PHONE”

SUPERNATURAL HORROR

The Black Phone, produced by Universal Pictures in partnership with Blumhouse Productions, one of the leading production companies in the horror genre, is based on the award-winning short story by Stephen King's son Joe Hill from the New York Times bestselling 20th Century Ghosts. American actor Ethan Hawke, he has been nominated four times for the Oscar Award for his leading role, appears before the audience in the most terrifying and horror role of his career. American film producer Scott Derrickson, known for his films Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel's Doctor Strange, gives the good news that he is returning to his horror roots with this production he directed. The story, which takes place in 1978 and feeds on the elements of supernatural horror, tells the terrifying narrative of a cold-blooded serial killer. Although it basically evokes Stephen King's horror classic novel It, we can say that it is a simpler version of it as a story. There are already references to It novel in the movie. Namely; We see that the yellow raincoat that Gwen wears while cycling in the rain is the same one Georgie Denbrough wore when she was to kidnapped by Pennywise in It. However, it is worth saying that genre lovers should definitely not miss it. Because the film contains a great cinematographic work behind the camera. In the production consisting mostly of warm tones to reflect the 1970s aesthetic; Anamorphic lenses with softer vintage features were used to achieve the look of the period, and the nostalgic dream scenes of the Gwen character were also shot with Super 8mm film, providing an aesthetic appearance to be perceived as dreamy. Also, the scary masks The Grabber character wears; It was designed by famous American make-up artist Tom Savini, known for his special effects makeup in cult horror movies such as Friday the 13th, Day of the Dead, Maniac and Living Dead. Director Derrickson wanted to reflect a period of anti-bullying initiatives in America in the 1970s, especially for the X generation. Focused on the traumas and dangers of being a child growing up in those years. The master director, the leading serial killers of the period; The Manson Family states that the likes of the Hillside Beast, the Zodiac Killer, Son of Sam, John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy dominate national news and horror the entire country as they reshape American nightmares. He also adds that he loves the undeniableness of the genre and has always considered looking into the eye of something unspeakably terrifying as a deeply purifying experience, both as a viewer and as an artist.

PLOT OF THE FILM

13-year-old Finney, a shy but intelligent teenager, is kidnapped by a serial killer targeting children. Enclosed in a soundproof basement where screaming doesn't work, the boy sees a disconnected black phone on the wall. Interestingly, when the phone rings, Finney realizes that the killer can hear the voices of his previous victims. They are determined to make sure that what happened to them does not happen to Finney.

Stars; Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, E. Roger Mitchell, Jeremy Davies, Troy Rudeseal, James Ransone, Miguel Cazarez Mora, Rebecca Clarke, J. Gaven Wilde, Spencer Fitzgerald, Jordan Isaiah White, Spencer Fitzgerald and Jordan Isaiah White.

A TERRIFYING PRODUCTION

Director Scott Derrickson lived in Denver as a child, where the movie is set. That's why so much of the set design inspiration was taken from his memories of that period. The black dial telephone in The Grabber's basement has important meaning in the movie. This phone acts as a link between the metaphysical and physical worlds. After a long search, production designer Patti Podesta and her team found a phone that appears to be from the 1970s. The production team took several of the same phones and made them look like they've been outdated for years. To reflect the seventies mood in the film, costume designer Amy Andrews and her team focused on a mostly warm tone style of clothing. In addition Hair designs, on the other hand, were created by the makeup teams, taking into account the dry Colorado climate, a fluffy and more comfortable style. The overall aesthetic of the film offers the viewer a heightened naturalness, but to further enhance these, the camera crew chose key scenes that were not overly stylized and tried to convey a dynamic visual supremacy and an immersive experience to special moments. Combining supernatural horror and psychological-thriller genres, The Black Phone is an unforgettable production with its gloomy atmosphere and depressive scenes.

A TRAVEL IN THE DARK WHIRLPOOLS OF THE MIND “SEVERANCE”

MENTAL CAPTIVITY

Severance, the extraordinary series of Apple TV+, has an original story with interesting plot and thought-provoking chaotic dialogues. It offers the audience a possible science fiction-thriller story in the near future. In this sense, the production, which proceeds in a line close to the Black Mirror style, actually focuses on the fine line between a kind of mental bondage and ideational freedom. On the other hand, in the depressive atmosphere of the production, we encounter socio-symbolic images and anti-utopian new world predictions. Severance, which we can call futuristic-horror in a way; Thanks to a system developed by a company called Lumen Industries, it offers a new frightening working service by dividing work life and private life memories. In other words, when the person is at work, does not remember anything about his private life thanks to a chip placed in his brain. It is seen that concepts such as a conscious captivity and discipline-control societies underlie this method, which takes employees to a new level of work-life balance. We see that the Panopticon phenomenon of British philosopher Jeremy Bentham, one of the most important names who laid the foundations of the mechanism to isolate people, is also here. Thus, we see the concepts of bio-politics and self-techniques of the French philosopher Michel Foucault, who broke new ground in this field with his work Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison, as well as the Master-Slave Dialectic, one of the key elements in Hegel's philosophy. In addition,  Slovenian political philosopher and cultural critic Slavoj Zizek (who is among the most important thinkers of today), we see the technological brave new world vision put forward  on the wave of innovation within the framework of techno-scientific advances in the world. We see that employees continue to work in isolation during working hours while they are at work and are deprived of information about the outside. This means a kind of prison life for the employees. Because they can only get information about the office and cannot even go out of the office without permission. However, when the character of Helly R., who is new to the office, questions this order, a new anarchic order emerges. Thus, we see that the office workers, who are kind of closed to Plato's ideology cave, begin to discuss the question of how can get out of this cave, and here we come across the intricate-dialectic of freedom and servitude.

TOPIC OF SERIES

Lumon Industries employees live their lives split in two due to a brain chip that separates their work and private lives. Leading a team of office workers here, Mark realizes that something is wrong, thanks to his new colleague Helly R., and embarks on a mysterious journey to discover the truth.

Directed by Ben Stiller, the stars of the series are; Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, John Turturro, Patricia Arquette and Christopher Walken.

DETAILS

-Apple has renewed the series for a second season.

-Filmed at the old Bell Labs building in Holmdel, New Jersey. The water tower out front was supposedly shaped like a transistor.

-The address on the back of the card reads '499 Half Loop'. The address of Apple old Headquarters is 1 Infinite Loop.

A MEMORY JOURNEY

In the Kafkaesque dialogues, which have an important place in Severance, we see that an ambiguous abstract feeling of guilt and anxieties dominate the characters. Another striking point in the series is; the perception of time in business life, functioning differently from the outside world. We notice that when the characters in Severance come to work, time passes more slowly and varies. Here we see that time is relative (as Einstein mentioned) and that the special theory of relativity or special relativity comes into play. In addition, we can see that the perceptible and measurable time phenomena, which the French philosopher Paul Ricoeur, who has done deep research on the phenomenology of time, worked in his masterpiece Time and Narrative, come into play and gain importance in this regard. Another striking point is that the red and blue color tones in the color palette of the series dominate the production. Especially the light plays we see during office awards parties, like Helly's red hair against the blue clothes she wears, and Mark's parking his car between the red and blue car. These are a metaphorical allegory to perceptions of heaven and hell and a reference to the duality of the characters' disjointed memories. The Apple TV+ series Severance, in the drama, mystery and science fiction genres, is an original production that should not be missed.

DETAYLAR

-Severance dizisi 2. Sezon onayını aldı.

-Dizi, Holmdel-New Jersey'deki eski Bell Labs binasında çekildi.

In this sense, the concept of the Will to Power by the Great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the concepts of the violence and obedience mentioned by the German political philosopher and social theorist Hannah Arendt emerge.

A CRIME EMPIRE

Offering a nostalgic look at the nineties, the HBO Max series presents a generation gap story (in Ken Watanabe's words) adorned with a kind of father-son story. Thus, the story; We see that it is based on the work of Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, one of the greatest classical writers of Russian literature, and Sigmund Freud's concept of The Oedipus Complex in psychology. The first part of the series; directed by Michael Mann, master director of Heat, The Last of the Mohicans, The Insider and Collateral films. Tokyo Vice, the new crime drama and thriller series from HBO Max, is a focusing on Yakuza families and examining the corruption of Tokyo's police force in the nineties as well as the justice system from a socio-political perspective. French philosopher Voltaire, one of the greatest thinkers of The Age of Enlightenment, states that the basis of all societies is justice. Tokyo Vice, on the other hand, presents injustice and cruelty within the framework of a story that works in a Neo-noir style. In this sense, we see that Voltaire's view of justice, which has a profound meaning, was restricted and hindered by the Yakuzas in the Tokyo of the nineties.
