CONCLAVE
Conclave, which premiered at the 51st Telluride Film
Festival on August 30, 2024, is adapted from Robert Harris' 2016 novel. This
film, which was nominated for 12 BAFTA awards and 6 GOLDEN GLOBE awards (and
won the Golden Globe for its screenplay), was selected as one of the 10 best
films of 2024 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
"CONCLAVE", which received OSCAR nominations in 8 categories,
including "Best Film" for the 97th ACADEMY AWARDS, is directed by
Edward Berger. This political thriller, considered one of the strongest films
of the awards season, is about one of the world's most secret and ancient
events, the election of the new Pope.

OF THE FILM
During the election process of the new pope, Cardinal
Lawrence finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy that could shake the
foundations of the Church. As divisions, scandals, alliances, political
rivalries and intrigues within the Vatican intensify, Cardinal Lawrence
realizes that the deceased Pope has passed away with some critical secrets that
must be revealed before the new Pope is elected.

THE SCENES
In the novel, Cardinal Benitez is a Filipino, and from
the Archdiocese of Baghdad, not Kabul.
Location shooting took place at Royal Palace of Caserta,
35km north of Naples - the main residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of
Naples.
The word conclave is derived from the Latin meaning of
"a place that can be locked up," or come (together) and clavis (key).
In the novel, Ralph Fiennes's character is named Cardinal
Lomeli.
